Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): According to the Hindu calendar, the month of Shravan begins on Monday. On this auspicious occasion, a large crowd of devotees was received at the Mahakaleshwar Temple of Ujjain.

The gates of the Mahakaleshwar temple were opened early at 2:30 am for the special Bhasma Aarti And Abishek. Around 17,000 devotees attended the Bhasma Aarti. By 9:30 in the morning it is estimated that around 80,000 devotees have visited, and more than 3 lakhs are expected during the day.

According to the temple administration, devotees can complete their visit — from queuing to reaching and exiting the shrine — within an hour.

Mahakal Sawari will be eliminated at 4pm

The most special thing about this Shravan is that this month has 5 lunar days and since the month started on a Monday, it also ends on a Monday.

Baba Mahakals See will be held today at 4:00 PM in Ujjain, wherein the Lord will bless His devotees in the form of Manmahesh. The procession will begin with the Palanquin Puja in the Sabha Mandap.

Grand procession on September 2

The police band and armed forces will form a guard of honour. The procession will move from Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple to Gudari Square, Bakshi Bazaar and Kaharwadi, reaching Ramghat on the banks of Shipra River for worship.

After the rituals at Ramghat, the procession proceeds via Ramanujkot, Modh Ki Dharamshala, Kartik Chowk, Khati Samaj Temple, Satyanarayan Temple, Dhaba Road, Tanki Square, Chhatri Chowk, Gopal Temple, Patni Bazaar and Gudari Bazar before returning to the temple.

According to Ujjain Collector Neeraj Singh, an estimated 2 lakh to 3 lakh devotees are expected to visit daily. On Nag Panchami, August 9, up to 8 lakh devotees may visit.

In all, there will be five processions in Shravan, with two more in Bhadrapada. The grand procession will take place on September 2.
