Haryana suspends mobile internet, bulk SMS services till 6 pm today in Nuh

The Haryana government has suspended mobile internet and bulk SMS services in Nuh district till 6 pm on Monday (July 22) for the Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra. Security has been tightened for the yatra that was marked by violence in 2023.

An order issued by Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Anurag Rastogi said: “…there is fear of causing tension, annoyance, unrest, damage to public and private property and disturbance of public peace and quiet in the Nuh district..”

The suspension is aimed at “countering the spread of misinformation and rumours” through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Six people, including two security guards and a cleric at a mosque in Gurugram, were killed in clashes that broke out when a mob attacked a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession in Nuh on July 31, 2023.

According to the police, around 2,500 police and paramilitary personnel were stationed in the district this year a day before the yatra.

The yatra will start from Nuh’s Nalhar temple and end in Singar via Jhir temple. Police will keep a watchful eye at Nuh town, Nalhareshwar temple, Aravalli ranges, Badkali Chowk, Jhirkeshwar temple, Shringeshwar temple (Singar), and the concluding points of the yatra, Kumar said.

The Nuh police have issued a special advisory for drivers of heavy vehicles. According to the advisory, heavy vehicles heading to Sohna/Gurugram from Alwar should take the Mumbai Expressway from Ambedkar Chowk in Firozpur Jhirka via KMP Expressway.
