ng. Ludwig Annan Hesse, President-elect of GhIE, administers the engineering oath to the newly initiated engineers

The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) has recruited 146 new engineers at its Engineering Centre, Roman Ridge, Accra.

In addition, six candidates who could not attend the previous induction ceremony applied for induction. This brings the total to 152 engineers who were initiated by the President-Elect of the GhIE, Ing. Ludwig Annan Hesse.

When administering the engineering oath to the newcomers, Ing. Ludwig Annan Hesse charged the new engineers to carry out their duties in accordance with the ethics of their profession.

He warned them to stop advertising their work as this is enshrined in their code of ethics and practices.

He advised the new engineers to do the right thing, be socially responsible and consider environmental sustainability in all their work.

He said this would increase their value in the profession they have chosen.

He urged them to become active members of the institution so that they could be recommended to the Council of Engineering Sciences for renewal of their licenses.

In his address, the Chairman of the GhIE Membership Committee, Eng. Dr Patrick Amoah Bekoe, said that the Constitution, in line with ACT 819, makes provisions for four major professional groups, namely: Professional Engineers, Professional Engineering Technicians, Technical Engineers and Craftsmen.

He added that the past three years have seen an increase in membership of the Engineering Craftsmen Occupational Group. However, the influx of Professional Engineering Technologists and Engineering Technicians Occupational Groups has not been encouraging.

He indicated that the Members’ Committee has therefore intensified its outreach activities to increase the admission of these two professional groups.

The Immediate Past President (IPP) of GhIE, Eng. Rev. Prof. Charles Anum Adams, advised the engineers to uphold integrity and honesty and continuously improve their skills by participating in continuous development programmes organised by the institution.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Executive Director of GhIE, Eng. David Kwatia Nyante; Council members; former Presidents of GhIE, guests and family members of initiates
