Harris could be confirmed as Democratic presidential nominee on August 1

The vote on the nomination of US Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate is expected to be held on August 1, CBS journalist Ed O’Keefe reported on Sunday.

Delegates to the Democratic National Convention were told in a phone call Sunday to prepare for the Aug. 1 vote, O’Keefe told the network. He explained that the vote would be virtual and that Harris is expected to be officially declared the Democratic Party’s nominee for the presidential primary. Harris’ candidacy could thus be confirmed before the party’s national convention in Chicago, Illinois, scheduled for Aug. 19-22.

According to O’Keefe, those who don’t like the idea of Harris’ nomination have just 10 days left to say no and challenge her. He also noted that data on potential voting dates is not yet official.

The newspaper Politico reports that some US officials and Democratic donors are calling on independent Senator Joe Manchin (from West Virginia), who was a member of the Democratic Party until May of this year, to return to the party and seek the nomination as presidential candidate. At the same time, Reuters writes, citing sources, that the heads of regional headquarters of the US Democratic Party in all 50 states support the nomination of Harris as candidate for the elections.
