Chapter 6 – A Handy Gap – Cataclismo Guide

Wave 1 – Building the Forward Defensive Outposts

For this first section, you only have access to three Bowmen and three Lobbers, so positioning is crucial to ensuring the waves never reach the Shrine. Zoom out to a bird’s-eye view to see everything you’ll have to contend with: the wave comes from the far north, winding its way through a mist-filled chasm consisting of three separate lanes leading to the Shrine, with an Ancient Beacon at the end of the second lane.

Between these mist filled paths are stretches of higher ground, connected by several rope bridges, and there are also a few areas with some ruined stone that you can use as a starting point to build your ‘towers’ for this defense.

The main one is all the way to the north across the last rope bridge: this one already has a raised platform with a Fire Arrow installation. Make sure to place a few more stone pillars around it so you can place your three Bowmen here, and create Merlons to give them all a range and damage boost.

Just over the bridge is a Throwing Poison installation, which can give a similar boost to your Lobbers as the Fire Arrows do to your Bowmen. Fill in the eroded ground around the installation to create a spot for your three Lobbers, and line the edges with Merlons to increase their range and damage.

Between these two spots, you’ll likely slow down and destroy a large portion of the first incoming wave of Horrors. But with all the extra pieces and gap space, it pays to prepare for fallback positions.

Opposite the Lobbers’ Throwing Poison placement, you can see where the canyon transitions into the second lane, passing through a narrow section of trees with some stone ruins. This is a good place to rotate your units, meaning that if any Horrors get past the first defense post, you can order your Bowmen to race to this second line of defense.

You should have enough stone to place a high wall that will deal more damage to your archers, with a wooden scaffolding behind it. You can even leave a lower spot on the side to send a Lobber or two over.

Finally, there is a good backup spot to start building up for the first wave. Find a small island in the mist just before the Ancient Beacon and build a rope ladder up to it. You want to make a tower here similar to the first one to send your Bowmen or Lobbers to (there is also an open spot on the other side of the rope bridge where your Lobbers can set up).

When you’re ready, you can manually activate the wave by pressing the fast forward button.

Between these spots you should have more than enough spots to deploy your six units in this first wave, as long as you take advantage of the battlements and the extra damage boosts, as the enemies are numerous but relatively weak and will not attack you directly.
