4 jump from multi-family home to escape fire in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — Firefighters are trying to identify the Good Samaritans who rescued four people from a fire Sunday night.

They are being praised for their role in saving the lives of two adults and two children.

The South Fire District responded to a structure fire at 1 Dunham Avenue just after 8 p.m.

The fire department reported that they arrived on the scene within five minutes of the call and found a heavy fire at the rear of the building, on the second floor of a multi-unit residential building.

Upon arrival, firefighters found that the two adults and two children had jumped from the second floor, assisted by neighbors below.

All four were taken to Middlesex Hospital with minor injuries and smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were also able to rescue three dogs from the building.

Officials said the fire was under control within 30 minutes. A total of five people were displaced from their homes and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
