PBA to Officially Implement “4-Point Shot” for Season 49

In PBA Season 49, all shots from beyond 27 feet will count as four points as the league aims to get fans back into stadiums.

In a bid to lure fans back to the venues, the PBA is making a new idea official for the upcoming 49th season of Asia’s oldest play-for-pay basketball league.

From Osaka, the PBA Board approved the implementation of the “4-point shot” for their annual planning session.

For PBA Season 49, all shots from beyond 27 feet will count as four points.

“It’s an All-Star Game. With this rule, mababawasan ang zone defense, lalabas ang depensa at mas tutulin ang laro,” said Alfrancis Chua, who was elected vice chairman.

The PBA has toyed with the idea of the four-point shot before, with the mechanism being used during the last two All-Star Games.

Interestingly, the four-pointer came in handy earlier this year in Bacolod, when Robert Bolick managed to force a tie between Team Japeth and Team Mark by scoring a five-pointer.

Besides the four-point shot, an important development in Osaka is that the PBA is considering building its own arena.

“We are looking at properties in Metro Manila, about two to three hectares in size.
