Madonna’s son David Banda says he has been searching for food since he left her.

During a recent Instagram Live, the 18-year-old son of music megastar Banda opened up to viewers about his post-grad situation. When a fan asked him how he’s “feeling living on his own,” Banda gave a surprising answer, according to People and the New York Post.

“It’s a great experience where it’s nine o’clock at night and I’m hungry and I realize I don’t have enough money to buy food, but we don’t have enough food in the house and we go out and look for food,” he joked, adding that “it’s fun.”

Earlier this year, Madonna posted a touching update to fans on Instagram featuring Banda and his sister Mercy James, who is also 18, as the duo celebrated a huge achievement: graduating from high school!

“There is no easy road to motherhood. No manual or university,” Madonna wrote, adding that motherhood is simply trial and error, learning and succeeding and then failing again.” Madonna is the mother of six children — Lourdes, 27, Rocco, 23, and her twins Stella and Estere, 11 — including James and Banda, who was born in Malawi and adopted in 2008.

Madonna previously brought her son David Banda to perform on her Celebration Tour

Last September, Madonna posted a message on Instagram to celebrate Banda’s 18th birthday, writing that his name means “speak the truth” and that she “couldn’t think of a better name for an artist.”

“It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 18 years since we met you in Mchinji at the Home of Hope orphanage!” Madonna wrote.

Before leaving his mother’s house, Banda played a major role in his mother’s Celebration Tour, which ended in May and kicks off in October 2023, according to an interview with W Magazine.

“Because The Celebration Tour is a retrospective of my life, it made perfect sense to include all of my children who still live with me in the show,” she told W Magazine. “Because they all dance and play musical instruments and have done for years. David has been playing guitar since he was a kid.”
