Students from Maratha community can now submit caste validity certificate within 6 months

Mumbai, July 22 Amid the fresh agitation sparked by pro-Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday announced that students, especially from the Maratha community, can surrender their caste validity certificates within six months.

The Prime Minister said students admitted to various educational institutions for technical, medical and professional courses for the 2024-2025 academic year can now submit their caste validity certificates within six months from the date of application.

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a press release that students from the Maratha community will not face any difficulty in obtaining caste validity certificates, especially in view of the ongoing legal battle over the implementation of the 10 per cent reservation approved by the MahaYuti government through a law.

“They can now apply for the caste validity certificate within six months of applying,” the Chief Minister’s office said.

The government’s decision is important because the caste validity certificate is required for admission to vocational courses. After the results of 10th and 12th grade, there are numerous applications for caste validity certificates.

Moreover, the state government has taken steps to issue Kunbi caste certificates to the Maratha community with Kunbi details.

Students from the Maratha community applied for caste validity certificates. However, the admission process was hampered due to delays in the submission of caste validity certificates due to various procedural issues.

Mondya’s decision will allow students from the Maratha community in particular to submit their caste validity certificates within six months from the date of application, provided the admission falls within the Maratha quota.
