Trinamool to introduce motions on NEET, 3 penal laws during monsoon session of Assembly

Kolkata, July 22 The ruling Trinamool Congress will move two special motions in the West Bengal Assembly this week during the monsoon session.

The first motion concerns the abolition of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the second is on the three new penal codes introduced in India, the chair of the meeting confirmed.

The decision to move these two special motions was taken by the Business Advisory Committee of the state assembly on Monday when the monsoon session resumed.

However, in accordance with convention, the session was adjourned on the first day following a death notice.

The Speaker said the motion calling for abolition of NEET and restoration of the old system where individual state governments conduct such exams would be taken up in the House on Tuesday and debates on the issue would take place on Wednesday.

On Friday, the Minister of Finance will submit a motion on the three criminal laws in the country. Debates on the issue will be held next Monday.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had already sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 24, making the same demand for abolishing the NEET exam.

She had also written a letter to the Prime Minister objecting to the introduction of the three new criminal laws without proper preparation.
