Pathankot MC official caught accepting ₹1 lakh as bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Friday arrested Jatinder Kumar, posted as a junior engineer and building inspector with the Pathankot Municipal Corporation, for allegedly 1 lakh as bribe. The accused has also filed the additional charge of the Batala MC.

An official spokesperson of the VB said that the action was taken after receiving a complaint from one Rashpal Singh, a resident of Bharoli Kalan village in Gurdaspur district. He said that the complainant had mentioned that the accused had demanded 1 lakh as bribe for not declaring his agricultural land as part of an illegal colony being investigated by the suspect.

The spokesperson added that after a preliminary investigation into this complaint, the VB team had set a trap and the suspect was caught red-handed accepting 1,00,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered with the VB police station, Amritsar range. The accused would appear in court on Saturday, he said, adding that further investigation was underway.
