Celine Dion sings from the Eiffel Tower during Paris Olympics performance – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Céline Dion’s performance from the Eiffel Tower during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games on Friday proves that the heart keeps beating.

Dion, who had not sung in public since 2020 due to her battle with stiffness syndrome, shocked the world with her triumphant return to music.

What song did Céline Dion sing at the Paris Olympics?

The “Power of Love” singer sang “L’Hymne à l’amour” by French singer Édith Piaf from the foot of the Eiffel Tower in what instantly became an iconic moment.

The Grammy-winning singer recently detailed her battle with stiff person syndrome in the Amazon Prime Video documentary “I Am: Céline Dion,” in which it was revealed that the 56-year-old French-Canadian nearly died from the disease.

In the documentary, Dion says she has improved significantly since the first days after her diagnosis and that singing and performing again is her main motivation to overcome her illness.

“It’s not hard to do a show right now, it’s hard to cancel a show,” Dion said. “I work hard every day, but I have to admit — it’s a struggle. I miss it so much. The people. I miss them. If I can’t run, I walk. If I can’t walk, I crawl. I don’t stop.”

Other performers at Friday’s opening ceremony included Lady Gaga and French-Malaysian pop star Aya Nakamura.

Dion’s performance marked the end of the Opening Ceremony and the beginning of the Olympic Games. It also seems to be the beginning of a musical comeback.
