Man faces eight years in prison for shooting in Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A Binghamton man faces eight years in prison for his involvement in an April shooting in the city of Binghamton.

Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti announced that Qualem Hernandez, 19, pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.


On April 12, Hernandez opened fire on a group of individuals at Woodburn Court, located at 100 Susquehanna Street. Binghamton Police investigated the incident and with the help of visual recording equipment and street cameras, officers were able to identify and arrest Hernandez.

Hernandez will be sentenced to eight years in New York State Prison, followed by five years of supervision after his release on September 13.
