OTTAWA, ON – In a clash between the two best teams in the Canadian Premier League (CPL) so far in 2024, Atlético Ottawa went down by a narrow margin. York United narrowly won the match, but capitalized on their chances in Toronto.

KEY MOMENTS

Atlético Ottawa remains atop the CPL standings (8-5-3) after a 4-1 defeat at York United FC (2nd place, 8-3-5).

Score: 0-1. Ollie Bassett gave Ottawa the lead with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area (6′). Assist by Ballou Tabla.

Score: 1-1. Sam Adegkube headed in the equaliser for the home side (41′).

Score: 2-1. Atlético hit the crossbar before York’s Juan Cordova’s effort went past Nathan Ingham (51′).

Score: 3-1. Rubén del Campo’s shot hit the post, but York doubled their lead when Mo Babouli’s effort was cleared past the diving Ingham (78′).

Score: 4-1. Brian Wright completed the scoring (89′).

Atlético outscored their opponents 12-9 (5-5 on goal) and also hit the woodwork twice. Bassett hit the crossbar for the equalizer and Del Campo hit the post, making the score even (2-1).

Atlético Ottawa would like to thank the travelling supporters, organised by the Capital City Supporters Group, who once again made the trip to support the team along the way.

Ottawa’s next home game is against Cavalry FC on Saturday, August 3 (KO 7:00 p.m. ET, live on OneSoccer) for “Kai’s Big Night” in partnership with the Eastern Ontario Potcake Rescue.
