Kanwar Yatra 2024: Schools in Ghaziabad to remain closed for 5 days; Traffic restrictions from today | Delhi News

All schools in Ghaziabad will be closed from July 29 to August 2 for safety during the Kanwar Yatra, as ordered by District Magistrate Indra Vikram Singh. The pilgrimage, which begins on July 22 and culminates on August 2, will increase traffic. In addition to the school closures, Ghaziabad will see a series of traffic restrictions from today.

Ghaziabad: In preparation for the annual Kanwar Yatra, all schools in Ghaziabad will be closed from July 29 to August 2, according to an order issued by District Magistrate Indra Vikram Singh on Friday. The closure is aimed at ensuring the safety of students and school buses during the important pilgrimage period.

Traffic is expected to increase significantly

The Kanwar Yatra, which coincides with the beginning of the Shravan month on July 22 and Shivratri on August 2, sees thousands of Shiv devotees carrying holy water from Haridwar to various states including Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. The influx of pilgrims is expected to significantly increase traffic through Ghaziabad.

In order to manage the expected influx of devotees, the district administration has imposed a ban on all vehicles, including light and small vehicles, to ensure smooth and safe travel for the Kanwariyas.

Major traffic restrictions and diversions from today

In addition to the school closures, Ghaziabad will see a series of traffic restrictions from today. Major diversions and vehicle restrictions include:

  • Gangnahar Patri Kanwad Road: Full vehicle restriction.
  • NH-34 (formerly NH-58): Only single lane movement from Mohannagar/Meerut Tiraha/Rajnagar Extension/Hapur Chugi towards Meerut. Complete restriction will begin from 29th July midnight.
  • Eastern Peripheral Expressway: From 29th July at 00:00 hrs, vehicles from Palwal/Kundli via Duhai junction towards Ghaziabad City/Muradnagar/Modinagar will not be allowed.
  • Meerut Tiraha to Seemapuri border: Until midnight on July 29, only lane traffic in the opposite direction will be allowed; after that, a full restriction will apply.
  • Routes to Dudheshwar Temple: Complete vehicle restriction from Chaudhary Mod/New Bus Stand/Gaushala Fatak/Hapur Tiraha/Kaila Bhatta side, and at Patel Nagar Flyover.
  • Sanitary Geeta Chowk to NH-34: Complete vehicle restriction from Sanjay Geeta Chowk/Ghukna Mod/DPS Cut/Sihani Chungi/Sanjay Nagar Flyover.
  • Meerut Tiraha vs Santosh Medical Jal Nigam T-Point: Full vehicle restriction.
  • Delhi Meerut Expressway: Complete restriction from 29th July at 00:00 hrs. Travelers are advised to use National Highway No. 09 via Hapur as an alternate route.
