Swims you may have missed on Day 4 of the Speedo Summer Championships

In addition to the A-finals on Friday evening, there were also many impressive swimming performances during the fourth final session of the Speedo Summer Championships in Irvine, California.

Pleasanton Seahawks 16-year-old Tim Wu won the men’s 200 freestyle B final in 1:50.30, nearly half a second faster than his previous best time of 1:50.74 set in May. He is now ranked No. 21 in the U.S. 15-16 boys national age group (NAG) rankings.

His teammate at the Pleasanton Seahawks, 15 years old Luka Mijatovicfinished 5th in the 200 freestyle with a lifetime best of 1:48.73, a quarter of a second faster than his previous best of 1:48.98 from last month’s Trials, where he finished 32nd. He still ranks 7th all-time in his age group.

Irvine Novaquatics 16-year-old Andrew Maksymowski was close behind Wu in 1:50.51, taking almost half a second off his previous best time of 1:50.89 from the preliminary rounds. Before today, his best time was 1:51.60 from May. Maksymowski is now 27th in the NAG rankings.

Speaking of impressive time losses, the 16-year-old Hornet Swim Club Matt Vatev won the D final of the men’s 200m breaststroke in 2:19.34, shaving more than two seconds off his previous best time of 2:21.47 from the preliminary rounds. His best time to date was 2:22.17 from earlier this month.

In the A-final of the men’s 200m breaststroke, Drew Eubanksfinished 5th in 2:14.29. The 16-year-old was over a second slower than his previous best time of 2:15.83 set in March, and moved into 10th place all-time in the NAG 15-16 rankings.

Kentucky’s Rising Junior Mercy Frericks began her women’s 400 free relay in 57.04, a few tenths off her previous best of 57.40 from May. In the men’s 400 free relay, Santa Clara Swim Club 15-year-old Shareef Elaydi started with a time of 51.85, smashing his previous best time of 53.28 from July last year.
